There is no denying how important online marketing is for a business. The best way to get noticed on the internet is only if your site is ranked in one of the top search results for the relevant keywords. While many bloggers, SEO gurus and marketing agencies will claim to be able to improve your ranking through some easy fixes and simple steps, the reality is that this is a more consuming affair. There are many factors that contribute to complex ways in which SEO works that most consultants and bloggers do not write about. Unfortunately for most marketers, these things are extremely vital for the success of your SEO. Here are some of the myths that need to be dispelled.
1. Blogging doesn’t work immediately
When people assure you that blogging will increase your traffic from search engines, they forget to tell you the conditions attached to making this happen. Ranking and getting found using specific keywords is a slow process, so do not be fooled into expecting results within weeks and months of launching a blog.
They rely on a number of factors such as how frequently are you posting, how long are your posts, are you using the right keywords properly etc. The most common mistake that you can make is to post blogs only for the sake of linking keywords to your site. This will create a lot of poor, uninspiring content that will not bear well in the natural linking dynamics of the web.
While building a reputation and following for your blog is not as easy as the consultants make it sound, it is not impossible either. You need to be patient and consistent with your efforts in order to see results.
2. The age of your domain matters
As Moz founder, Rand Fishkin and Matt Cutts from Google would say, the age of your domain does not substantially change your ranking. However, if you have recently launched a new website and have done everything right from an SEO standpoint, even then it can take some time before you get recognizable traffic from search engines. This is because the search engine rankings depend mostly on content quality and backlinks.
Compared to a new website, older domains have had more time to accrue quality inbound links and publish content on a consistent basis. So regardless of how little the effect, the age of your website domain does have an effect on how quickly it ranks.
3. Optimize for keywords wisely
Keywords are the most essential tools in SEO success, and you may resort to loading the few content pages that you have in your site with as many industry-related keywords as possible. You must take care to not over-optimize one or more pages on your site in order to rank for specific keywords, but instead post strong content with wisely distributed keywords to bring in more traffic.
In fact, Google has slowly been shifting away from depending on keywords. You need to focus more on long-tail keywords.
All this does not meant that you discard SEO as a marketing strategy. It is still your best bet to get noticed. All we are saying that it takes time to raise up website’s SEO rank.
