Research shows people do crawl all the way to the bottom. A study by Chartbeat looked at 25+ mill website visits and found no page is too tall, no footer too far. Footer is your last hope to convince a user to stay on your website and browse further trough it.
Ask yourself – what do you want your potential visitors to do when they reach the bottom of the website page? The answer you come up with will be a great starting point for designing your website footer. Website footer is an important part of the design. Pay attention to it. Make sure to include the right mix of information, design elements and usability to get the most of the lowermost space in every web design project.

Just because the footer is a major focal point for website visitors and it’s on every page, you shouldn’t use it like a messy file cabinet with many unfiled items.
So get rid of any unnecessary links by focusing only on the most relevant/important. If it cannot be filed under your given categories or navigation options, it probably isn’t needed.
