Gather the Data

The first step of this process is to collect the link data. Your first stop is the Google Search Console. Google Search Console is free to use. Once you login, on the left navigation bar, you will find “Search Traffic” and under that, “Links to your Site”.

Click on “Download more sample links” and “Download latest links”.

Apart from Google Search Console, you can also gather backlink data from Majestic, Ahrefs and Moz. Each one offers their own analytical service. Ahrefs and Moz offer a free trial while Majestic allows you to start with a subscription.

The more data you collect on the backlinks for your beautician website, the better your audit will be. Hence, it is recommended that you at least sign up for Ahrefs and Moz trials and download the data.

Coagulating Them

The second step is to coagulate all the backlink data you have collected and eliminate any repeated links. For this, you need to transport all the links from the spreadsheets into a notepad file.

Next, you will require the assistance of URL profiler. URL profiler is not free, but it does have a 14 day trial which you can use.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed the software, click on the Accounts tab on URL profiler. This will bring up the API keys.

Click on the white box – URL List and select import from file. Import the notepad file which contains all the links.

Now that you have a coagulation of all the links, you can select the data you want by selecting the API keys. The more data you want, the more time you will have to spend to filter and sift through the links. It would make your job easier to know what you want; for example, you want to identify the low quality links.

Depending on how much data you have inserted, the task can take from an hour to 6 hours. So, sit back and relax.

When the task is complete, you will have a spreadsheet of your links.

It’s an in-depth collection and segregation of your links. Ignore all the tabs on the spreadsheet. You want to create your own tabs.

  1. Sort by HTTP status: Look for the URL links that have a 200 code. These pages don’t exist any more, making these links worthless to have.

  2. Sort by Link status: This will enable you to find links that are actually found so you get rid of the ones that aren’t found.

  3. Sort by Rel Nofollow: Identify nofollowed links since you don’t have to spend time on them.

You narrow down the links on your site. So what do you do with them? You manually analyze them. Visit each link and check these points:

  • Design and usability of the site

  • Check the SEO rank of the link

  • Identify the relevance of the page to your site

If the design is bad, or you suspect a page is conducting black hat SEO tactics, or the page has poor relevance to your site – immediately sever your connection with it.
